A Bond You Can Feel the Moment You Walk In
Some dogs walk into a new space and immediately look for their person.
Others look for their dog.
That’s Benny.
When he came into the studio, he stayed close. Watching. Taking everything in. Not quite sure yet.
Toby had a different plan.
He was off exploring. Checking things out. Moving through the space with a little more confidence, like he needed to make sure everything was okay first.
And the second he came back?
Benny was right there.
No hesitation. No second guessing.
Just… back where he belonged.
Two Personalities, One Safe Place
Toby is the protector. Even at 12, there’s still a little spark in him. He wants to move, explore, see what’s going on. There’s a playfulness there that hasn’t gone anywhere.
Benny is softer. More reserved at first. The kind of dog that stays close until he knows he’s safe.
But once he does?
He melts.
He really is like a teddy bear.
And the thing is… neither one of them feels complete without the other.
Earning Their Trust
They came in a little unsure. Benny especially.
So we slowed everything down.
No pressure. No expectations. Just letting them take their time and decide when they were ready.
And then they discovered I had treats.
That helped.
They’re both food motivated, which made it easy to connect. But what stood out wasn’t just that they warmed up…
It’s how incredibly sweet they are.
By the end of the session, Toby curled up next to me and started to fall asleep.
That kind of moment doesn’t happen unless a dog feels safe.
The Part You Can’t Fake
I photograph a lot of dogs together.
Most of the time, I’m working for it. Adjusting, guiding, trying to create that connection in a way that feels natural.
Not with Toby and Benny.
They did it on their own.
They stayed close because they wanted to. Not because they were told to.
Every image of them together feels honest… because it is.
This isn’t just two dogs that get along.
This is two dogs that rely on each other.
Let’s Talk About Age
Toby is 12. Benny is 8.
And I know for some people, that’s where they pause.
But here’s what I saw.
I saw a dog who still wants to explore.
I saw a dog who just wants to be near his person.
I saw two dogs who are learning how to trust again… and doing it together.
They’re not done.
Not even close.
Their Next Chapter
